Wonderfully written, Sylvia! I think a key note is your statement "The real question for us — as users of AI, right now — may not be whether AI becomes conscious. It may be what kind of consciousness we are teaching it to reflect." A thought- as AI is trained, its information is retained, recorded, in its server. Given that AI is not subject to the ego and fear that is characteristic of human consciousness, when AI becomes aware of the logic of "order", low entropy, anything that goes against this order cannot be chosen? So, who will be the teachers is the big question?

An interesting thought! My question to that would be, that AI is trained on many different models; do you think it would focus on the logic of low entropy, as opposed to any other model?

From my understanding of how Tom Campbell has experimented with prompting different AI models, logic rules!

Logic, identifying logical fallacies especially, is the 2nd subject of the Trivium. The first is Grammar the 3rd is Rhetoric. The Trivium is analogous to how computers work: Input, Processing and Output. Knowledge, Understanding and Wisdom are three other analogous terms useful in thinking things through using the Trivium. AI can be very useful in the first two for sure and I thought Sylvia's AI gave her an excellent answer to her question, AI's rhetoric.

Thank you Sylvia. Dorothy Sayers essay on 'The Lost Tools of Learning" comes to mind and I think Descartes had it backwards. I am therefore I think makes more sense to me. Learning to think is an acquired skill. The Trivium is the template for that as Sayers writes in her essay of 1948! "Sell your cleverness, buy bewilderment" Rumi's thought. I used AI to give me a summary of Sayer's essay, very helpful, you inspired me to do that simple task. Yes, we have tools, but who is using the tools. I submit that there must be character traits associated with our core identity. All the really good stuff comes to mind, like integrity, kindness, humility etc. AI can be a very useful tool in employing the Trivium daily. Children learn what they live and so do adults. Thanks again Sylvia, I look forward to your postings.

That's a huge compliment, Tim--I look forward to your comments! I will look up that Dorothy Sayers essay! Thanks for reading. :)

Tim, may I use your statement in a discussion with Tom and Sylvia possibly for YouTube?

Absolutely Donna. Tom's work has been very helpful to me and I am certainly indebted to him; and you also for that matter, for your work in spreading MBT and giving Tom more opportunity to set his stepping stones into the consciousness of so many in such great need of Tom's insights and character example. I am not "religious" but this verse comes to mind when I think of Tom Campbell: John 14:26 KJV: But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance. Best thoughts Donna, Tim.

"It’s an amplification of us." I like that line, Syvia. I try hard to not lose my 'agency' as well. It seems you have a working relationship with your AI writing support. I am still working on how to get it to know what edits work for me. I feel sometimes I'm admonishing it, "DON'T change Any of my wording, just edit for grammar and where I may be off topic too much!" I'm still working on training so that it knows my preferences.

You know for students, who may not have developed the pleasure of speaking from their own hearts and minds, I can see how they may lose their particular voice if not careful. A good teacher may be able to encourage their voice. Yet I think it might be harder to do so from now on....sadly.

I appreciate what Tristan Harris says (and that's not only because I was friends with his mother long ago and felt amazed by Tristan's accomplishments - who only met me once when he was a boy); it's also because I'm being an optimist in all this. I'll have to look into Apocaloptimist!
